About the job

Due to the sensitive nature of the work, candidates must hold active Enhanced DV (eDV) clearance to be considered for this position.

A Java Developer is required to join a specialist technology consultancy delivering secure software solutions for high-profile government and national security programmes. This role offers the opportunity to work on complex, mission-critical systems, building high-performance backend services that support intelligence, analytics and operational platforms.

You will be responsible for designing and developing secure, scalable Java-based applications within highly regulated and classified environments. Working as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team, you’ll help deliver modern microservices architectures and data-driven systems that support critical decision-making capabilities.

As a Java Developer, you will contribute across the full development lifecycle, from technical design through to implementation and optimisation in production. You’ll work closely with architects, engineers and stakeholders to build reliable services that process large volumes of data while meeting strict performance, security and reliability requirements.

Requirements:

  • Strong experience developing backend applications using Java (11+) and modern frameworks such as Spring Boot / Spring Framework
  • Solid understanding of object-oriented design, software architecture and RESTful API development
  • Experience building microservices and distributed systems in scalable, high-availability environments
  • Experience developing data-intensive or mission-critical backend systems
  • Familiarity with DevSecOps environments, including tools such as Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines and automated testing frameworks
  • Experience implementing monitoring, logging and observability to support production systems
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to translate requirements into robust technical solutions

Security clearance is essential for this role – Active Enhanced DV (eDV) clearance is required.

They are offering a salary of up to £90,000, depending on experience, and great benefits, along with the opportunity to work on highly secure, nationally significant technology programmes. Due to the sensitive nature of the work, the role will involve onsite work (approx. 4 days per week) at client locations in London or South West of England.
